CHAPTER 5

French legend tells of mythical fish in the Seine that carry all the wandering souls who have lost themselves in Paris. They are small, transparent, almost invisible, like baby guppies. If you put them in a glass of water, you could drink them without knowing they were there.
*********
You can only see them when the moon is full
and the river reflects its light on a calm surface.
They appear like fireflies under the water.
**********

The wandering souls. The homeless. The lost.

**********
Tonight, I look out my window and see the fat orange moon rising over the city. I think I hear them talking to each other,
words shaped like iridescent bubbles.
Telling their stories.
